Cervical cancer programme in Kenya: lessons to guide elimination as a public health problem

Dr Valerian Mwenda speaks to ecancer, about his study into the cervical cancer screening programme in Kenya.

He highlights that cervical cancer is one of the leading types of cancer and the leading cause of cancer deaths in Kenya.

Dr Mwenda outlines the aims of this study which were to conduct a policy review of the national cancer control programme from 2010-2020 in Kenya and then compare it to the performance of the programme. The results showed strong improvements in the national cervical cancer control programme policies over time but found there were weaknesses in Governor structures.

He concludes by commenting on how the study results could impact the future treatment of cervical cancer in Kenya.
