Dr Yosr Hamdi speaks to ecancer about some of the aims of the African Oncogenetics Network. This is a network of global cancer leaders in Africa founded to ensure all Africans have access to life-saving cancer genetics care.
She explains that the AON wanted to setup a robust equitable system that can help patients across different regions to be able to get access to genetic testing, training and awareness.
Dr Hamdi details that the AON is a multi-disciplinary team and includes members not just from Africa but from other regions in the world.
She concludes with the prospect that the AON will be launching a course on clinical cancer genetics in Africa and also molecular tumour boards for African specialists.
